I love this story. I too live in the PNW, and you reminded me of the time a small bird flew into my house when the patio door was open one evening to let my dogs back in. I also was panicked, but not because I feared the bird but because I have 2 indoor cats. The little bird quickly learned this too, so it did not perch and chirp happily, it also panicked and fluttered about frantically, which enticed the cats even more. I realized it was easier to catch and quarantine my cats than it was to catch and free the bird. I then relaxed and bided my time. As evening turned into night, I turned all the lights off in the house except the front porch light and left the front door open. The bird quite literally "saw the light" and left. May your next bird experience leave you chirping.
The chaos!! I loved reading your story. I love how stories remind us of another and another. That’s why I like to sit around and tell stories. I already have another bird and a squirrel story to tell you
Diane, Amazon is the easiest place to purchase. No it does not come in hardback. Yes, it is in audio through all the regular services. You will see the link here on Amazon for both the print copy and audio version. thank you! https://amzn.to/4iCWmr2
A bird in the house might be good luck!? We had a mouse in the house, when my boys were little and Eric was gone for work. Somehow, we rigged up a cardboard tube that he scurried through on his way into a paper bag. We caught him and didn't have to touch him! I put him outside. We still remember that mouse--a rare time I didn't freak out and instead made a fun game of a problem. I don't know what came over me!
As for the East Coast part of your tour, you know I will collect all my local ladies and local church ladies (there's some overlap there) and host a joyful book event!
We so often make certain problems into huge monsters that turn out to be nothing-muffins, if you will! It's part of experience and maturity, gaining perspective to sharpen our evaluations. I would hope they would diminish over the years.
Nothing muffins. I like that. Yes, they have diminished and I am grateful for that. Heard a story about a young person who was upset for days over the smallest thing. It reminded me of this story about myself
