After a stroll through the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum I kept going back to the painting "Omnibus" by Anders Zorn. I bought a print. What fascinates me is that every time I ponder it new stories speak.
I live in an art town, and as I look around at my walls, I have twelve by local artists. I have one from one grandmother's home and one from another. Three from my parents. Likely no one will care for these when I'm gone, but I care now.
We can readily relate to your art collection. You remind us that we don’t need to own art in a material way to own it in a spiritual way. When I get to visit the Met, I take in many works new to me but also rush to works in the American wing and the Impressionist collection as if visiting friends I hoped were waiting for me
Shemaiah, when I saw this post title I assumed it was about the Bruce Herman painting in your dining room.....I like this even better.
My personal art collection? Like Megan W below I have three original pieces of art in my house that bring me joy:
A linocut print by Paul Soupiset of a sailboat--simple and meaningful, thought I'd have to ponder a bit more to say why.
The original watercolor that I commissioned for the cover of my first poetry book, painted by Laura Winslow. It is a pathway through the woods... so evocative to me of walking with Jesus.
A small oil of a landscape/mountainscape--I love the trees and the lake view it depicts.
My favorite actual piece of art *wink* is Georges Seurat's "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" which I came to love via the play "Sunday in the Park with George" and saw in person (twice) at the Art Institute of Chicago.
The size of it is so arresting and the way Seurat portrays the many individual people in the painting, each with a personality and a story (I imagine, of course).
I love this idea! (And need to get Ramsey's latest!) Those are some special ones in your collection! Andrew Wyeth is a favorite of mine! I've spent some time in the Netherlands so many of Dutch masterpieces are in my collection, like the Girl with the Pearl Earring!

Thank you! I’m in love with it!
Isn't that amazing? Going to go look up your personal collection painting now :)

I have a few originals too. Some are even from friends. Tell the stories of the pieces to anyone who will listen! They will care
Yes!
I saw that book title and started singing it to the tune of Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart - once a worship leader, always a worship leader!
I too live in a Christian musical :)

Yes exactly! My priest is going to the Met tomorrow which made me realize it have been 8 years since I've been to NYC. I need to go!
Love this. Thank you, Shemaiah!
Thank you for reading! What’s your collection?
